We have been getting a lot of questions from parents justifiably concerned about redistricting. Unfortunately, at this time we really don’t have a lot of answers. The new school district plan is still just a preliminary one, so nothing is set in stone yet.
A principal will be named sometime after the new year, and then things should start to take shape pretty quickly.
The preliminary districts are available here: Plan

Our school PTA is holding a food drive. There is a shopping cart in the front lobby that the families may place any goods they would like to donate. These items will go to the Second Harvest Food Bank, which distributes food to the smaller food banks and soup kitchens in the area.
Our third grade families have already held a food drive to provide food for the holidays to the needy people in our community. Thank you all so much for contributions.

The latest information we have is that the school district is planning to hold flu clinics at every school in the county.
We do not have a date on when that will happen at Stoney Point. More information will come when it is scheduled.
This article in Tuesday’s Observer details the progress of New Century School off Strickland Bridge Road.
We do not yet have any more information other than what is in the article.
The county has identified several schools to hold flu shot clinics during school hours. Stoney Point is NOT one of those schools.

This year, the company that produces the Accelerated Reader computer program went to a subscription based service. Because of this change, the cost went from a one-time expenditure to a yearly, recurring cost.
Stoney Point decided not to spend the money for the program.
Recently, we have been discussing whether this decision was wise. Parents and students, weigh in – what do you think about AR? Does it help kids learn to read, read independently, and love to read?
Your thoughts are appeciated!
